That would be fantastic to read. Characters that are detectives are so incredibly convenient, too, which is partly why I think they work so well: they ask uncomfortable questions, go places that you aren't supposed to go, have perfectly rational reasons for doing what most people wouldn't do. My sense is that the rigidity around genres in the US is a little less than in the past, and I've really enjoyed seeing detective stories in so many different environments.
