“… the person who is primed for good yet blind to the bad they’re sure to cause.” This is the problem with entrenched dogma and blind partisanship. We exist in our political silos, not unlike Pyle, consuming only that which feeds our bias, never peeking outside to challenge our suppositions. My Dad sometimes said, “The truth often lies in the middle.” But these days, if you dare to balance along a centrist highwire, the strong gusts coming from blowhards to the left and right are sure to topple you.

Unfortunately, it seems if you mention a few points in one direction, a few in a different direction, wrestling with an idea, some people will find that way of thinking to be baffling. The idea that you might not be campaigning for a particular side just doesn't occur. Thank you for the comment, John.
